Where did the Opera in Opera rose/pink come from? :
Eastern music was very exotic and rare here, so when I heard those different chords and melodies, I was so drawn to them, because it was something that I had never really heard. You’ve also dipped a bit into classical, very successfully in my view, with the Bizet and Beethoven and Bach. Is that a form you’ve actually studied?I’ve tried, but I don’t read music. I’ve tried to learn music theory and learn how to read sheet music and it’s like I hit a wall. I do everything by ear and that’s kind of how I’ve learned. So no, I haven’t really studied in the classical way. I absolutely love classical music. I love listening to it and I do feel like I am inspired by it. I love playing it. But, oh my God, it’s so difficult compared to pop or whatever. In January 2021, you did that cool collaboration with the great Hawaiian baritone opera singer Quinn Kelsey—the “Opera Kanikapila” put on by the Hawaii Opera Theatre. How did that come about? They reached out said, “Look, we’re going to try this new series where we have singers play with different musicians, or collaborate with dancers, or something.” I believe I was the first one and they asked me to play with Quinn, which was definitely stretching me and a good way to grow. I’ve never played with an opera singer, so of course I was scared at first. But he was very sweet and let me do what I wanted to do, and it worked out that way. I want to ask you about the surf music thread that goes through almost all of your albums in some form, including the new one, and in your live show, of course. It seems like you play more surf music than just about any other uke player. Did that come from your initial experiences back when you were a kid playing with Don Ho in Waikiki, playing “Wipe Out” and other songs? Yeah, but even before before Don Ho, I played on the streets of Waikiki [which is where Ho discovered her and asked her to join his nightclub show] with a bunch of beach boys so those were kind of the songs we learned and that we would jam out together. Then Don asked me to play and that [surf music] was kind of my thing. I did By @genug Nope, because you did a portable installation if I understood correctly. From there you'll be able to choose a "standalone install" (also referred to as USB install in some versions) which you can install anywhere on your system. If the former, try the latter. Also, make sure lucid mode is off at the URL opera://settings/lucidMode.Then, goto the URL opera://settings/content/all, type youtube.com in the search field and click "Delete displayed content". Then, repeat for google.com.Then, goto the URL opera://settings/clearBrowserData and clear "cached images and files" for all time. Then see if Youtube still thinks you're using an adblocker. If so, disable your extensions at the URL opera://extensions one by one and repeat the clearing of Youtube and Google data and your cache and try again. If still no go, you might have to fool Youtube into thinking you're using Chrome. Bazzbuzz last edited by Hi- I'm an old man (71) and know nothing about computers. I DID know from younger friends that Explorer was crap and that I should try Opera. I did. LOVED it. And have stuck with it for years. I'm working still on Opera 12: I did d/l Opera 17, but when I found that Bookmarks did NOT come with it, I quickly uninstalled Op.17 and went back to Op. 12: the bookmarks were my MAIN reason for using Opera. Does anyone know how I can upgrade to the better security of Op.37 without losing my Op. 12 bookmarks (I must have about 2,000 of them; Explorer didn't do this well, Chrome does bookmarks fairly well, but only if fewer than 2,000; haven't figured out Avast Safezone yet).I imagine you younger guys might be laughing at me- fair do- but I am a retired soldier of 44 years service (22½ regular, 21½ reserves), so I am asking if someone can help me. And as I look at the 05 May answer above as I write this, I don't know what a bookmarks.adr file is, or how to find it; also above says export as html file: how does one do that? BEFORE I get the Op.37 d/l? or after? My old army brain says how can one export something if there's no destination yet? Help, please. A way to recover your pinboards somehow, I would be more than happy if someone could contact me or answer my post here ppclarke last edited by After the last update all my pinboards have disappeared. When I click on pinboards I just get the start page. I had a lot of pinboards and I would hate to lose them all. Any help would be appreciated. luschuab @ppclarke last edited by @ppclarke I also lost my pinboards. Did you solve your problem? ppclarke @luschuab last edited by @luschuab No, unfortunately I did not. I got no replies, but from what I gather from other similar posts, unless your opera account was backed up, they are gone forever. Seemingly pinboards are still in beta mode so no guarantee it won't happen again. kathyb last edited by leocg I posted about this a year ago, and here I am again. Pinboards! Why on earth offer them? Once again, my materail is gone. I guess you just don't clear your browsing history/cache and keep your machine tuned all the while being able to keep your pinboards. I'm disgusted with Opera! No Where on the download page where it says oh.. look... pinboards... does it say, you may lose your material if you run a cleaner. The numerous people that have lost their material because of this is nuts that Opera would let it go on.. Oh wait, it's in Beta , so that excuses their lack of transparency. So I went and read the reviews, I'm not the only one complaining. Opera emails me playing stupid, oh can you send us a screenshot, when is this happening? Use your own browser and find out. Go ask all the countless other people having the same issues. The only thing safe is flow for retaining material and as I said early on, extensions notion, webclipper kathyb @kathyb last edited by This post is deleted! michallica39 last edited by Hello guys. I had the same problem, all my piboards were gone and I couldn't find a way to recover them. I didn't have sync turned on but after trying out few things I was still able to recover my pinboards. Here's how to do it:Log into your Opera account. Once you're in, click the person icon at the top right corner of the browser. There you have to click on your icon to open your Opera profile dashboard.Click on "View your synchronised data" panel to open sync content section. There you will have your bookmarks, tabs, pinboards, etc. Click on the pinboards section. It will open the list of your pinboards. The problem is, when you click a pinboard to open and then you come back to main pinboard, it still shows no pinboards, which means that you'd have to do it every time to open the pinboard that you want. To fix it:go to Settings->Synchronisation and turn on the sync options. You might need to log off and back on again to make it fully work.Like. Where did the name soap opera come from? To be a state-of-the-art opera. It has to flash with technology, the way he did. [Hear excerpts from the score to The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs on SoundCloud.]Get paid firstI don’t write a word until I get my first check because I’ve seen too many things fall apart. And a composer would never write a note until they got their first check. I’ve learned from them. But I come from theater where people have the attitude of, “I just want to do this – I’ll do anything.”With musical theater, the commission fee might be something like $500, and they’ll take ten years to develop it and then maybe not do it at all. It’s just a different way of doing things. With opera, you get a really decent commission up front. They say “go,” and you start writing.Learn to love deadlinesYou have to meet deadlines. And I love deadlines because I know something needs to be delivered at a certain time. I can write really quickly. I wrote Act One of Silent Night in a few days and Act Two actually took longer because I hadn’t figured out what was going on in it. That took about a month. This libretto for Lucrezia was written in two or three days because that’s all the time I had.The thing that can be a problem that I’ve seen is when a composer delivers their work way late – like four or five months late. That hurts everyone that comes after them: It hurts the director, the conductor, the cast. So it’s very important for composers to get their scores in on time.Composers get generous amounts of time. If the opera is going to go up in three years, usually my libretto is due within three to six months. So it’s very importantComments
